“The believers, in their love, mutual kindness, and close ties, are like one body; when any part aches, the whole body responds to it with sleeplessness and fever” (Muslim).

An Ummah is a concept deeply rooted in Islamic tradition referring to a global community of believers who act as one body, who are bound by shared values, who care for one another, and who hold the collective responsibility to protect the natural world. When the Ummah For Earth alliance was first launched in 2020, our dream was to build a unified Muslim climate community leading on environmental work. Today, six years after we took our first step, we mark a milestone that proves that our dream is now becoming a growing reality: we have officially reached 60 allies.
Having 60 allies who are based around the world and vary between local organizations, international organizations, and individual experts means more than a quantitative success. It also indicates that faith-based climate actors are growing, rising, and finding their space within the global community.
Harnessing the power of numbers
In any domain, including climate advocacy, power takes the form of influence and scale.
This is why the number 60 matters. Ummah For Earth is formed from 60 distinct members with different reach, geographies, and expertise that are working under one umbrella, one mission, one narrative instead of scattering and isolating efforts
Building this systemic movement is impactful on multiple fronts:
- Harnessing the power of a big pool of resources: By connecting organizations with deep local roots and the technical expertise of allies who work on a larger scope, Ummah For Earth is contributing to shaping global responses and meaningful engagement, delivering tangible impact, and calling for ethical ways of funding a sustainable future. By fostering deep alliances, our mission is to influence people’s perceptions and take decisive environmental action based on a faith-based value system that connects to people’s priorities.
- Broadening the Scope: By working across different countries and cultures, Ummah For Earth ensures that the solutions presented are diverse and fitting the different experiences of Muslims worldwide. The alliance sheds light on trusted voices and leaders who can shape narratives and influence their communities to build the collective power needed to create a long-lasting tangible impact.
- Influencing policies: With 60 allies, our advocacy for policy change efforts carries weight during international conferences such as COPs, strengthening the voice of a community significantly affected by the climate crisis. In parallel, our allies implement community-led initiatives from solarizing Mosques to reforestation activities that actually touch the lives of local people.
A future of united faith-based actors
For decades, the global climate movement has been viewed through a scientific and secular lens. It is true that science provides relevant data but faith sets the moral compass and constitutes the motivation of billions of believers on this Earth. The Ummah For Earth alliance links both aspects while elevating faith-based voices in global platforms.
As we celebrate today our 60th ally, we envision a brighter future holding a sense of hope and agency in our hearts. While global temperatures constantly rise, every new ally that joins Ummah For Earth accelerates our momentum, expands our impact, and brings a new sense of purpose.
Thank you to all of our 60 allies and friends for their contributions, courage, dedication, and the faith they showed throughout the years.
We invite you, whether you are an individual expert, a community leader, or an organization to join this journey of stewardship.
Together, as one Ummah for Earth, we can lead on making the needed change for the health of the planet, the people, and the future generations.
