As an active Lebanese woman, I believe that the change I want to achieve in my country first starts with small initiatives. I see it as my personal responsibility to take these steps in collaboration with other youth in my country and within the region. The 2063 academy was an opportunity to develop my knowledge about climate change issues, to influence my friends and social circle by taking action to save our planet, and to provide the next generation with a sustainable thriving world.

As part of Adyan organization participation in the Ummah for Earth alliance, it was a good moment to meet our U4E allies in Morocco, Atlas for Development and enhance partnership for the better of the Ummah and the world.

I was honored to meet people and public figures from different cultures and regions, especially those from countries of the Global South’ sharing their experience regarding climate change issues on the personal and even international levels. It was inspiring to share this knowledge with others and encourage everyone to be part of these kinds of initiatives; starting with people from our local communities!

One of the things I’ve really appreciated during the academy was reminding us every day, in every panel, the reason behind our participation and our impact on the global level by distributing the colorful cards with the values and words related to the SDGs; such as: Engage, Free, Youth, Be Heard, Be Seen, Dialogue, co-lead, co-create… These words that kept on highlighting the importance of Youth  when it comes to “saving” the environment.

In the end, change is not one directional; I might not be able to inspire change on the political or economic levels in my country the way I want to, but I can surely be part of the change our environment needs on a daily basis.

I am thankful for the Ummah for Earth alliance that made my participation possible when I presented the alliance and discussed regionally on the better way to achieve sustainable development goals and protect the most vulnerable  communities around the world.
